On – grid/Grid – tie PV systems

A grid connected PV system is one where the photovoltaic panels or array are connected to the utility grid through a power inverter unit allowing them to operate in parallel with the electric utility grid.

In other words, homes and buildings that use a grid connected PV system can use a portion or all of their energy needs with solar energy, and still use power from the normal electrical mains grid during the night or on cloudy dull and rainy days, giving the best of both worlds.

Components of a grid tie system

o   Load (e.g. lamp, fan, pump)

o   Electrical accessories (e.g.

o   switches, sockets, cables, etc.)

o   Electric utility grid

 

The main advantage of a grid connected PV system is its simplicity, relatively low operating and maintenance costs as well as reduced electricity bills

Off – grid systems.

An off-grid solar PV system (also referred to as standalone PV systems) are designed to operate independently of the electrical grid and are generally designed and sized to supply power to either DC or AC electrical loads, or both simultaneously.

In our society, the insufficient infrastructure is often the cause for an unreliable grid. And yet you are always in need of reliable electricity. A properly functioning decentralized power system is the only answer to at this point

Hybrid Solar System

A hybrid solar system combines all the benefits of on-grid electricity with the energy security and cost savings of an off-grid power solution. Meaning there are multiple power sources in a hybrid setup .In this case the primary source being from solar array , can be supported  by a diesel generator set or wind generator or by grid power.
